Our confirmation class is for youth who are in the 7th grade or older. Beginning on January 18, 2017, this year's group will restart on Wednesday evenings. We have an amazing group of mentors who have committed considerable amounts of their time to making the confirmation experience awesome for the confirmands. The discussions are led by pastors Paul and Jonathan, focusing on the core beliefs of United Methodist Christians, but coming up in 2017 we will have some road trips that will expose the group to Jewish, Muslim, and Roman Catholic worship. In February the group will attend a retreat in Raleigh, and while we're there we'll even worship at Duke Chapel before we come back to Huntersville.
The year of confirmation classes has the potential to change our young people's lives. Every week they will reflect on the basic beliefs, practices, and virtues of life as a follower of Jesus. Of course, we do this from a United Methodist point of view, meaning that we give a lot of attention to worship and the sacraments, social justice, understanding Scripture and Christian tradition, and seeing how our faith is relevant and practical in our lives. Once we start to recognize these, it can change a person's perspective for life, confirming the value of our faith and our value to the work of God.
